- NEC PC98
Q:Doesn't it work in NEC PC98 series?
A:ATP/Salford doesn't work in NEC PC98 series. Dr. Funaki of Osaka University
reported that ATP/djgpp worked, although simulation time reporting didn't work
(displayed as "0").
He also reported that ATP/Mingw32 worked and simulation time reporting also
worked, although it didn't work in full-screen mode. It worked in window
mode. He also reported it often hangs up, when displaying .lis file to screen.
It is recommended to put .lis file to disk.
It is also reported that ATP/Watcom worked under PC98 PC.
GTPPL32.exe which is a Win32 version of Gtpplot
was reported to work on PC9821 series according to Dr. Funaki of Osaka
University.
- Other versions
Q: Does it work under OSs other than MS-DOS/Win95?
A: ATP/Salford and TPPLOT/Salford don't work under WinNT.
ATP/Watcom, ATP/Mingw32 and ATP/djgpp work under WinNT.
ATP/Linux works under GNU/Linux.
The executable files for each can be obtained from
Secure FTP sites.
ATP/Watcom
The version compiled by Watcom Fotran compiler was developed by Bob
Meredith and Bob Shultz of USA with the source code of Can/Am. The
binary is maintained by both Dr. Scott Meyer/Dr.Tsu-huei Liu(Watcom
compiler V11) and Bob Meredith/Bob Shultz(Watcom compiler V10) . It works
under WinNT/Win95/Win98.
ATP/Mingw32
ATP/Mingw32 is a Win32 native application which works under Win95/98/NT.
It is now the mainly used version in BPA.
It was compiled by EGCS-Mingw32 using the source code for ATP/djgpp.
It is being improved and maintained by Dr. Scott Meyer, Tsu-huei Liu and
Orlando P. Hevia in Argentine.
As for EGCS-Mingw32(Minimalist GNU Win32), please refer to the following;

The GUI DATA INPUT TOOL like ATPDRAW is not yet supported under ATP/Linux.
Would any volunteer write such a royalty-free software?
-
Q: Is CPU other than Intel 80x86 supported ?
A: TPBIG running on Alpha-CPU under Digital UNIX is although it is rather old.
ATP was ported to Digital Alpha machines
-
Q: Is there any royalty-free tool used for creating input data by GUI?
A: Yes. ATPDRAW by Mr. Hoidalen of EFI Norway can be used. It can be
obtained from
Secure FTP sites.
The directory is /from_mtu/atpdraw/ad_v14/
It works under WinNT/95/3.1 .
This tool enables the user to create input data for ATP from the
graphical circuit description. It does not support the reverse
function (Create a graphical circuit description from an input data
file ) for the present, although such request was issued.
-
Q: Does Tpplot work under WinNT?
A: No, it doesn't work. As an alternative, the followings are available.
-
Q: Is there any tool like Tpplot which works under GNU/Linux?
A: Please use Gtpplot/Linux.
Gtpplot
It can be obtained from Secure FTP sites.
The directory is /common/gtpplot/
-
Q: How to install?
A:
-
Q: Where can I get Rule Book/Theory Book?
A: Theory Book can be got from
Secure FTP sites.
The directory is /from_mtu/theorybook/
The hardcopy of ATP Rulebook can be available from Can/Am EMTP user group or
EEUG. Please refer to the following;
Order form of Can/Am or
Order form of EEUG
Please note that they are ATP materials and cannot be
redistributed to non-ATP-Licensed person. To do so is the violation
of Non Disclosure Agreement of ATP license.
User Instruction Manual for Noda Setup
It can be got from
Secure FTP sites.
The directory is /from_japan/nodasetup/
The free Acrobat reader is required to see and print PDF files. If you don't
have one, you can obtain it from the following site.

- Q: Where can I get Can/Am EMTP News?
A: You can get from the following.
PDF format in Osaka University #2
This is the only one among ATP materials which can be read by anyone including
EMTP-commerce. But non-Licensed person has no rights of redistribution.
-
Q: Why is the disclosure of the ATP information to EMTP-Commerce
inhibited?
A: It is considered to be important for the development of EMTP
that anybody can use it, and contribute to its development. The
development, maintenance and service of ATP has been done by the
volunteers who support this spirits, and the results is supposed
to be used on the same spirits. It threatens the premise and
prevents people from joining the development freely if the results
should be used and sold as a pay product by the EMTP commerce
against the intention. Of course, that doesn't deny that the EMTP
commerce develop a software by its own exertions and sell it, and
also that doesn't deny the ATP users' rights to buy and use the
product of the EMTP commerce. The competition between ATP and the
EMTP commerce should be fair. The internal information of ATP is
not disclosed to the EMTP commerce just as the internal
information of the EMTP commerce is not disclosed to the outside.
-
Q: Can every organization and individual be ATP licensed ?
A:
No. Almost all organization and individual can be ATP licensed except
the EMTP commerce ( persons who participated voluntarily in the sale or
attempted sale of any electromagnetic transients program) and their
cooperators. Please note it is approved by Can/Am user group that the
disclosure of ATP to, and use by,
any commercial developer of any competing electromagnetic transients
program on the same terms as work of that commercial developer is made
available to the general community of ATP users. This is reciprocity.
-
Q: How is the relation between ATP-EMTP and Japanese EMTP Committee(JEC)?
Q: How is the relation between JAUG and JEC?
A:
JEC(Japanese EMTP Committee) is a first EMTP user group in the
world which was formed in 1976, and aims at an information
interchange, investigation and research of a portion common to
various EMTP versions based on BPA-EMTP which is a public domain
software(the copyright is abondoned and anyone can freely use,
distribute, modify and commercialize).
ATP license is given after one promise not to participate in the EMTP
commerce, and ATP license requires not to disclose ATP
information to EMTP commerce. JEC cannot become
ATP licensed because it doesn't exclude the EMTP commerce.
Many ATP users are included in JEC, but the acquirement of the latest ATP
software had been done via the application to the FD service by Can/Am
user group, and a copy to ATP users, which is approved and encouraged
in the ATP license. But this is not a systematic activity, so obtaining
the latest one was not always guaranteed.
On the contrary, European EMTP user group(EEUG) was organized in 1994,
after collapse of LEC. EEUG has the rules which is compatible with that
of Can/Am EMTP user group and excludes EMTP commerce. The acquisition
of the latest version is guaranteed based on the systematic cooperation.
As for EEUG, refer to the following URL.
ATP-EMTP Web Site of EEUG (European ATP-EMTP Users Group Associtaion)
In such a situation, some Japanese volunteers who are ATP users began and
have expanded the free services through Internet from June 1996. The services
include the latest ATP materials distribution via E-mail, publishing the latest
ATP information via WWW page, making mailing list, discussion and ftp service
on password protected secure servers.
At present, JAUG and JEC is in good cooperation in spite of the difference
of the situation for the EMTP commerce.
As for the news on JAUG, please refer to
JAUG News.
