10. Arc dynamics --- power system analyzing with dynamic arc characteristics
General
Today's high capacity circuit-breaker's performances depend on arc characteristics which is created between contacts during current breaking, i.e. arc circuit-breakers. Electrical arc can be regarded as a resister, the value of which is time-varying and a function of current. Generally the characteristics are expressed by differential equations. Today, differential equations can easily be involved in power system analyses by EMTP, so, for example, the performances of circuit-breakers in power systems which are mainly dominated by arc characteristics can be analyzed without difficulty.
