7. Dynamic stability of power system
General:
Dynamic stability means the state of a system (or generator(s)) under a sudden disturbance. In AC power systems, each generator must rotate in the specified speed keeping the appropriate phase angle relationship according to the power flow in each blanch (see chapter 6). By disturbances each generator's angle may swings, and in an extreme case, i.e. large disturbance under heavy load condition, the generator may go to out of step (out of phase) condition. In chapter 6, the maximum possible transmission power is, in static point of view, talked. But considering transient conditions, due to, especially, the mechanical inertia of the machine(s), the system may become unstable even within the maximum transmission limit (Over swing of the angle, etc.). Some analyses, not only the conventional manner but also the latest, thought to be, most precise and accurate one, are described in this chapter.
