Squirrel cage rotor induction machines are known as --- small size, low cost, high speed, high reliability and low maintenance ones. In principle, they are quasi constant speed alternating current machines. However, applying variable voltage/frequency (VVVF) sources, they are applicable to various usages including variable speed. Owing to recent progresses in power electronics technologies, squirrel cage rotor induction machines have been applied very widely to, such as, trains, locomotives, fun-motors, air-conditioners, various kinds of industrial plants, etc.
